Week 5/11-15
This is our last full week! I can't believe it. This week, you will work on your final project. It will be due next Monday 5/19. It is based on Surrealism. Surrealism was an art movement that began in the 1920's. It is characterized by a dream-like visual or a juxtaposition of unusual imagery. Check out work by Dali or Magritte for examples. You will create your own Surrealist style drawing following the directions on the handout above. You can complete it in your sketchbook. You should shade it with a full range of values. First you will pick three words off of the handout. Make sure you have a foreground, middleground, and background. In other words, you should create a scene and not just have your three items floating in space.

The next few days you will work on something a little bit different. We have standards about connecting art to the real world. To do this, we are going to look at careers in the visual arts. The arts help prepare you for a career regardless of whether or not it is tied to the arts. Some skills we use in the classroom that prepare you for the real world include critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity. However, you will choose a career in the visual arts, research it, and create a presentation based on that career. Some careers include an architect, fashion designer, tattoo artist, landscape designer, computer animator, or art therapist. Find a job in the arts that would interest you. Below you will find a sheet that has the required information. Please create a Power Point or Google slide and email it to [email protected]. It will be due on Friday. If you have any questions, please email me or send me a remind message. A good place to start would be theartcareerproject.com.
